Each year the National Hispanic Cultural Center offers a four week intensive writing workshop for high school students called”Voces:Writing Institute for Youth.” VOCES is a program that has a deep history. Over the last 12 years, dozens of young poets have spent part of their summer honing their craft. This year’s edition of VOCES was facilitated by the awesome folks from Urban Verbs, which include Hakim Bellamy, Carlos Contreras, and Colin “Diles” Hazelbaker. They brought in writers, published authors, musicians, communications strategists, comedians and local poets to participate as instructors and role models for the young writers.
