Letter to Peggy Muller-Aragón, APS School Board Member – Generation Justice

Dear School Board Member Peggy Muller-Aragón,

My name is Kenia Alonzo. I am 15 years old and I am a sophomore at Cibola High School (a school in your district). I am also a member of Generation Justice, an organization who helps to get youth voice out in the media.

Recently, I’ve been reading about “rumors” or “scandals” surrounding Governor Martinez, State Education Secretary Skandera, APS Superintendent Valentino, and ex-deputy Superintendent Jason Martinez. I’m not entirely sure if what I’ve read is true, but this is disappointing. I understand that APS has not exactly had the best year so far. I mean with the PARCC test walk outs, parents removing their children from APS, and teachers being let go; is it really the best thing to publicly defend the man who hired Jason Martinez, who is also currently incarcerated awaiting his trial for his charges of sexual assault and domestic violence?

Today is Wednesday, August 25th and tomorrow is the APS board meeting where you and other district board members will discuss Valentino’s future. I am going to believe that the board will make the right decision. The right decision is to get rid of people whose number one concern ISN’T the safety or education of students. Whatever decision is made, it will be an impactful one. Please make sure it’s a good impact.

Sincerely,

Kenia Alonza
