“I was 12 and GJ put a mic in front of me and was like, ‘we believe in you, what you have to say because it’s important.’ And in that moment I was like, ‘Oh wow, I have a lot to say and that realization clicked in my mind. That my voice was important is something that really dictated the last 10 years of my life and has opened me up a lot of opportunities, and opened me up to reaching for them. So that is definitely a form of empowerment. And the way I like to think about empowerment at GJ is not about GJ helping me to find my own empowerment. Really just leading young people, giving them the tools, and believing in them so that we find our own empowerment and begin to believe in ourselves. That’s really beautiful, I really appreciate that.”

“Generation Justice has opened my eyes to the world. I have learned so much about social justice issues, both nationally and internationally. Most of my memorable moments have come from being a part of Generation Justice, from talking about disability rights to interviewing local and national activists and policy makers about being involved in their community. It has been an experience I will never forget.”

“You know, Generation Justice has changed the way that I tell stories. It comes from more of a space of love and as a gift, as opposed to how media is taught now.”

“One thing that I have definitely taken from GJ was critical thinking skills…Whether it’s media analysis, whether it’s actually thinking about social justice and what that means . . . that definitely still helps me to this day as I do a lot of media on what’s going on in the Middle East. It’s a skill set that I still carry on.”
