Ending Corporal Punishment in New Mexico
GJ helped lead a statewide campaign to end corporal punishment in NM schools. GJ engaged both youth and adults around the ideologies and power dynamics contained within the debate about corporal punishment in our schools. In a matter of one week, working with other community organizations, GJ engaged over 1,300 people on the campaign website, collected 30 blogs, helped coordinate a rally on corporal punishment, and forwarded all messages to the governor. As a result, NM House Bill 172 was signed by the governor, ending corporal punishment in NM.
